Seeing it numerous times at Home Depot, I've been wanting to use Zinsser's amber tinted shellac to age a white base color. Has anyone used this?

I'm sure the clear shellac uses a similar formula. If anyone has used Zinsser, I had a few questions.

Does it darken with UV radiation and sunlight?
Does it check and crack?

If so, please share some photographs of your results!

Thank you.

I have only ever used that Zinsser shellac as a sealer. I've never used it as a top coat, but as a sealer, I've never had issues with it shrinking and checking.

Be aware that shellac is alcohol soluble, meaning if you spill your adult beverage on your guitar, you may be in for a rude surprise.

No,on both questions. Over white base you will get more of yellow tint as a finished product. You can tint it if needed but I would spray many thin coats to creep up on final coloring.
