It seems like bar magnets and/or blades would yield a more flexible pickup for varying string spacing.

Is there a reason we don't see more of them?

Do they not deliver "that" sound?

Bill Lawrence doesn't seem to have any trouble getting a sound. Cool

I've got a few old Fenton Weill guitars with pickups that are identical bar(sorry) the magnets- same casing, same cloth wound coil, same base plate.

The higher end models used six individual magnets, and the lower end used bar magnets.

I have to say the individual magnet pickups do seem to sound better, for what that's worth. Don't know if there is any difference in the magnets aside from the shape or anything.
