I just purchased a Lionheart on Ebay from a recording studio, $595 shipped:

http://www.zzounds.com/item--LNYL5T112

I had to tell my wife that I spent $600 on another amp when two are already in the mail coming my way and only one is leaving the house. She was... less than understanding. Wink

I'll post a review when I get it!

Not really a practice amp for me... I really like the little amps cranked up better than big, powerful amps. Then again, we've established that I'm not a gigging musician cause I have no friends. Wink

Yup! Crazy! She's gonna have your nuts if you keep this up. Laughing

Either that, or your gonna come home to a living room full of purses, shoes, and appliances all ordered from the home shopping network one day. Shocked

Wow. I hope it sounds awesome, because $1000 for a 5 watt practice amp is absolutely exorbitant.

How different would this Laney be than a 3-watt Blackheart with $100 in mods?

A good question that I'll be able to answer soon. I have a Blackheart with mods that I love, but it can't approach the level of sophistication of the Laney. In fact, it's because of my great experience with the Blackheart that I bought the Laney.

Not to dump on the amp and all, sorry. I know the excitement of getting new equipment. And the Laney looks good.

I'd just personally feel sick about unloading a grand on a little amp like that. When I think of all the other amps out there, and what you could get for $1000...there's a boatload of options.

Just a FYI, I have a 3 watt/6 watt all-tube amp a custom guy made me this summer. It's basically a scaled down Marshall stack. Mine is just like this one:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ovs0s4T2AQM

I'm almost done the cabinet I made for it...I've been playing through the chassis for 2 months! Ha ha.

Anyway. 3/6 watts toggle. All tube, custom point-to-point wiring. Bright switch, standby, Master, Drive, Tone. The amp, in 6 watt is unbelievably loud for the power. In 3 watt mode, I get full tube saturation at low volumes.

He charged me $330 Canadian for it, a price that included a 12" Carvin speaker and shipping.

The amp sounds awesome! I am very happy. Anyway, sorry, I don't mean to hijack. Here's some eBay stuff he's selling and it's all great:
