If you deal with Fenders the you probably know of Eddie Vegas.
I contacted him with a simple question and I thought I would share the unbelievable reply.

I have acquired a 1962 sunburst strat.I know this guitar and know that it has been in the same family since the 60's.Everything is original except the body was refinished in the early 80's.
At that point it was put in the case so the body is good. The body for whatever reason is dated 7-63 the neck oct 62b. My question is have you ever seen one of these bodies without the worm route?
This one does not have that route.I have seen 70's bodies without it and have seen some that were done very messy and not straight but never have I seen one without it from that era.

Thanks ,Scotty Huffman

Hi. Not for me to say. It's not in my hands. I'm not buying or sold it. I just can't assume over a email. And give advise or value or authenticity. Good luck. Peace. Ed

Only asked if you had seen one without the worm route before.

Yep not surprised. I'd try Dan Erlewine, Gruhn, or Dave's in Wisconsin.
Or Fender themselves.

There's been a lot of discussion on this forum and other places about the guy over the years. He's not someone I'd ever do business with, even if the price was right.

Classic response. Has he ever actually sold anything? I have a hard time believing it...

I don't see what the beef is. Eddie is super cool. I bought a Pre CBS Fender guitar cavity dust bunny from him a few years back. cost me $3000, but it was worth it, gave my project Strat the much needed mojo it required. Laughing

i've never read anything good about the guy. and I also can't believe he has sold anything, at those ridiculous prices he charges.

My absolute favorite bit was the auction where he was selling the MASKING TAPE from a '50s Strat wiring harness. That's a special level of crazy.

A Strat just won't sound right without vintage masking tape. Laughing Laughing Laughing
