I am replacing a multi cap in a Silvertone 1483. The original is a 1" diameter, 425 v. 20/10/5mfd.

I found a similar can at Tubesandmore, 1" diameter 450 v (good), but it is 20/10/10mfd. I am assuming the slightly higher value on the last leg is OK, in other words, running it at 10mfd rather than 5mfd is no biggie? If so I am ordering it....thanks.

ia.

Another question. I have a similar 1483 I use as my main amp and in it, replaced the can AND most of the other electrolytic caps. And the output tranny was dead so put another in. So, far from original but it is a killer. On this one, I am thinking about replacing the multicap but leaving the rest as-is. Keep the other stuff mostly original and see what happens? There is a wild and crazy replacement output tranny in there already, apparently this was a real weak point in these amps almost every one I have seen or read about on a blog has been replaced. This one looks like it is out of a 1940 Philco radio but if it works, maybe keep it?

Anyway, was thinking about just replacing the can and powering it up with a Variac and see how it sounds "vintage"....why have two that are identical? I do plan to disable the ground switch and add a three-prong power cord. But since I am ordering the main cap today thought I would add this to the list of advice I am seeking...replace all caps or just the multicap can?? thx.

going over the cap value is fine in a PS...you will have less ripple that way... "cleaner" DC.

I had the out put trans replace with a hammond in mine...now it is a great amp...
