Looking for a pick-up or pick-up/ microphone/ pre-amp or whatever combination to amplify a Martin dreadnaught. It has a passive under-saddle piezo that I have never liked. So it's getting canned to make room for something that actually lets my guitar sound like itself through an amp. I do not want to start cutting holes in the guitar for the pre-amp so it has to be something stealthy. I will be playing through a Fishman Loudbox Mini.
Any ideas?

I use one of these (active) in a Guild Richie Havens model, and LOVE it.

Have you tried the Fishman Spectrum imaging DI with your existing p/up? Pretty amazing boxes .

I endorse a company called K&K that makes some of the best acoustic pickups I've ever heard. I don't say that because I endorse them-- I endorse them because I can say that.

Twangster the pickup I have sounds so bad I think I will start fresh.
Tangelo the K&K stuff is in my sights most assuredly. Maybe the Fantastic and MinI combo with the 2 channel pre-amp.

Cool . Which ever way you go I recommend you have a look at the Spectrum . It dequacks and adds some acoustic space to an under saddle but I don't think it works so well with top attached piezos .

This has been on my mind too. I don't want much, just something super easy to use that sounds great, and isn't going to affect the acoustic tone of my player-grade 1960 J50.

Which K&K?

Only tangentially on-topic...

twangster, have you seen the UAD "Sound Machine WoodWorks" plugin?

It's not going to fool anyone into thinking they're listening to a KM56 on a banner-era J45, but speaking of "de-quakcing and adding some acoustic space" to under-saddle pickups, I find it damned impressive. I could see it coming in handy when doing things like mixing live albums, or if one was forced to use a DI safety taken during a date for some reason.

I'm not sure whether it could operate in a low-latency enough environment to be of any use in a live sound application, but it definitely shows that the technology is improving and coming a long way.

Which K&K?

Pure mini is a popular one. I use the Meridian microphone system, but admittedly that one only works in specialized circumstances (it's pretty feedback-prone)

+1 for the Pure Mini. Just make sure to mount the treble side transducer directly behind the high E hole, not in between strings like the other two.
That's the ticket.

I'm also using K&K pickups on my old Gibson. I replaced the strap button with a jack/button as well.
