I own & use a legal version of Nuendo 2.2 with dongle etc. for my living, there are certain recent devices like moving fader units that require later versions.

There is no way to demo new Nuendo versions, a friend sent me a torrent copy of a new version. I was mousing around the folder and hit one mouse click to many , the dongle emulator started installing.

Then the legit copy wouldn't open , so I removed the dongle, and low and behold everything worked fine. Some say the app even works better without the CPU cycles required for dongle calls. ( The dongle emu shows a tally of calls made, it's stunningly high)

I'm torn between trying to uninstall it and risking further problems (?) or just continuing on. Input appreciated.

No advice, just appreciating the fact that you said "dongle" without giggling. Laughing

Me too . It's never been an easy word, and one I can't imagine Hank Hill even uttering. Very Happy But it's part of the audio copy protection world these days. If I even asked this question on an audio forum they'd lock it.

Man that sucks! They never learn. I remember a case back in the 90s when one of those dongles screwed over the firmware of an iOmega Jaz or Zip drive. The software vendor wouldn't do anything about it.

If the software is working for you with the emulator for the legit version, then I say no big deal. And you are right, USB tends to use up more CPU (hence why firewire is so popular amongst DAWs)

No, but I bet there would be a beer-fueled curbside discussion, egged on by Dale Gribble. Laughing
