I'm working on doing a blue burst on my MIM strat. I know that a MIM strat is not really ideal for a burst but it's the finish I always wanted for it so I went for it. Plus it's a good guitar to learn ...

The issue is that the overspray from the black appears to be making the blue appear purple. I'm fine with the parts that are supposed to be black and I also assume that as the finish transitions from ...

I had another thought about this. If it is in fact the black that turned my blue purple, I should be able to sand that off since I sprayed a couple coats of clear over the blue to seal it a little bef ...

The black would likely be the culprit. What were you spraying; dye, black lacquer?

I was using lacquer with StewMac's black pigment in it.

I used this for the blue dye: http://www.stewmac.com/Ma ...

That was the other thing that I was wondering, if it could be the color of the wood making it look purple, but my thought was that since I'm seeing a true blue on some of the guitar where I've patched ...

Agreed, I wouldn't expect to get a purple color from the yellowing of lacquer but that was just my first thought. Even if it was that, it was too fast; it happened almost immediately.

My only othe ...

I'm trying to do a blue burst on my strat and the blue tint came out more of a purple. At first, I thought it was just changing colors as the lacquer cured but there is a small spot that I patched aft ...

That's good to hear. Thanks!

Any tips for warning/keeping warm lacquer while spraying with a gun? I'm not using cans. Does the lacquer cool quickly? I should be fine just warming it before each coa ...

So, winter's upon us here in New England and while it's been a fairly mild winter so far we're still seeing temperatures in the 30s and 40s. I have some spraying that I'd like to do while I'm on vacat ...

It's in the blue. When I say I tried sanding it out, I mean I very, very lightly pulled the sandpaper across it to try to get it to come out. I used as light a touch as possible which was good because ...

I'm pretty sure I missed a hair in one of my early coats of a trans blue lacquer finish. I've tried to sand it out several times but haven't been able to clear it up. I was trying to figure out if may ...

PostForum: Guitar Finishing and Restoration   Posted: Wed Aug 27, 2014 2:23 pm   Subject: compressor won't kick back on
My understanding, which should be taken very skeptically, is that the check valve is keeping air from feeding back from the tank into the compressor motor. If that's not functioning properly then the ...

I replaced the check valve on this about a week or two ago and finally had a chance to fire it up this weekend. It seems like the check valve was the problem. It was able to cut back in properly when ...

Had some time to check it out again today and I'm thinking it's the check valve.
