My 1962 Gibson Les Paul Was originally Red
If you remove the pick guard and control cavity cover
You can see the Original Bright Red
I guess the Clear Lacquer has naturally browned
Is there anyway ...

Not sure about spray cans but bulk lacquers , as long as it's properly seal will last a while. Over a very long period of time it may thicken up a bit but nothing a little thinner can't fix.

I do not advise sanding back ANY metallic finish. You'll ruin the metallic effect.
